Artificial Intelligence Surgical Video Recognition Study

Surgical machine learning and analytics development

The goal of this project is to develop artificial intelligence (AI) in the surgical field in order to extract key insights, and provide specific learning moments and recommendations to surgeons.

This research program counts on a large international team of expert engineers and surgeons that will collect and analyze a huge amount of surgical videos and information, in order to merge and enhance human criteria and experience with AI.

Using powerful AI tools we will objectively analyze general surgery procedures videos to extract the key points of each surgery and provide specific recommendations to surgeons at every step. The system will be able to recognize the different phases of surgery, determine which sequences, techniques and ways of solving problems are more efficient, as well as pretending to avoid complications even before they occur.

The aim is to have virtual assistance in real time that helps intraoperative decision making, equivalent to having the advice of expert surgeons in the operating room itself.

With the look set in the future, we intend to use technology to enhance daily surgical practice, education and research, with the main focus set on patients’ care.
